SALEM COUNTY TASK FORCE TO STUDY
HOUSING NEEDS FOR DISABLED RESIDENTS

Freeholder Director, Charles Sullivan has announced the formation of a countywide task force to study the housing needs of Salem County’s disabled residents. As part of the county’s strategic plans for 2004, the Freeholder Board committed to improve services to it’s growing population of disabled residents.

"This is just the first step in what will be a visible and tangible increase in our commitment level" stated Sullivan. " I am committed to insuring that they have a more welcoming environment here in Salem County and this begins by insuring they have accessible, affordable barrier free housing with recreational facilities. "

Task force members include Jeff Ridgway, ADA officer for the County; Isaac Ashley Young, Fair Housing Officer for the County, James Waddington, Director of Economic Development; Deborah Turner-Fox, Clerk of the Board/Administrator; Debbie Behnke member of the Advisory Counsel for the Office on the Disabled; Beth Timberman, Freeholder and Charles Sullivan, Freeholder Director. They will evaluate the trends in housing needs and recommend solutions for addressing the shortfall that exists today in Salem County.

The Salem County Office on the Disabled is currently part of the Inter Agency Counsel, which is housed at 98 Market Street in Salem and can be reached by calling (856) 935-7510 x 8315.
