COUNTY GOVERNMENT HOSTS STUDENTS FOR JOB SHADOW DAY

SALEM -- Fifty-five eighth grade students from Salem County schools will "job shadow" county government employees on February 4, 2003. Eighteen County departments will demonstrate the varied worksites and explain educational requirements. Children will be briefed in the Courthouse at 9:00 AM, for dispatching to their assigned departments until 1:00 PM.

The Prosecutor's Office will host 12 pupils to view daily operation, case preparation, court tour, major crimes/fingerprinting presentation, narcotics investigation techniques and narcotic detecting canine.

Other county activities participating include agriculture support, building plant management, public elections, road engineering, environmental/public health, information services, long term care, purchasing, road construction, law enforcement & jail, veterans' services, will probation, consumer protection, and government regulation/recording.

Fourteen students designated "Honorary Freeholders" will return to the Courthouse on February 5th at 6:30PM to "report" to their respective Freeholder. These students will later sit alongside their Freeholder in running the 7:30PM formal meeting.

Job Shadowing Day is part of the Salem County Schools-To-Career Initiative.
