Salem County Emergency Communications System Improved

Salem County Freeholders delivered on a promise that has been nearly three years in the planning. On Thursday, September 11, 2003 the County’s Emergency Services Department activated new equipment aimed at improving the communications network on the western side of the county.

Director of Emergency Planning, Carl Wentzell and Chief Communications Officer, Jack Ayars commented that "a great deal of credit goes to the well coordinated efforts of the contractors that worked together to complete this project safely and in record time."

Earlier this year, the Freeholder Board appropriated an additional $200,000 from the capital projects budget to finish this project. It was given top priority this year in the county’s capital projects given the essential services that our emergency responders provide to our county residents. $380,000 of equipment had already been purchased and had been in storage awaiting the financial commitment to proceed with construction.

Freeholder Director, Jack Kugler stated that he is pleased to see this Freeholder Board delivering on its commitments and getting the job done. "There is no more fitting a tribute to our emergency responders than to provide them with the very best tools to do their job of protecting us each and every day."
