History Fact: "At the general election held on November 2, 1976, the citizens of Upper Penns Neck Township in Salem County voted 1931 to 887 in favor of changing the township's name to Carneys Point Township...Under State law, Title 40:43-4 et seq., after this vote, a certified copy of the Township Committee meeting minutes of such election return was filed with the Clerk of Salem County, and a statement was sent to the Secretary of State by the Township Clerk that a majority of votes were cast in favor of such public question....The change became effective with that official Township Committee meeting of November 10, 1976." Interesting Carneys Point Fact: Actor Bruce Willis, born Walter Bruce Willis, on March 19, 1955, in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany. The Willis family moved from a West German military base to the small town of Carneys Point, New Jersey, when Bruce was two years old. He grew up (in Penns Grove, NJ) as the oldest of four children in a blue-collar family (his father, David, was a welder). As a teenager, he worked in a DuPont chemical plant. After graduating from high school, Willis attended Montclair (NJ) State College, where he first became interested in acting. (source: www.biography.com)
